Spring Forest Middle School’s Multicultural Festival showcases its diversity

The Spring Forest Middle School PTA hosted their annual Multicultural Festival on October 25th. Flags from the homeland and birthplace of all 900+ SFMS students were hanging throughout the school. SFMS is the most diverse school in SBISD and was proud to show off its variety of cultures. Over 700 parents and students attended this free event. The festival included food and treats from 28 country tables hosted by families and staff, henna hand painting, music provided by both the SFMS band and orchestra, plus a DJ who treated the students to popular and regional music from all over the world.

Students had a different cultural experience at every country table they visited. When they visited Canada they were treated to pancakes and syrup while learning about hockey. They sampled chicken feet while they learned about China. They sang songs, danced and feasted when they visited Mexico. Students took passports around the festival and received a “stamp” when they filled in an answer about a country. Students who turned in a completed passport received a free dress day pass (vs uniform). Local community generously supported the event by donating food, desserts and services.

Local restaurants that supported the event were B.B. Lemon (opening soon!), Carmelo’s Cucina Italiana, Chick-Fil-A Memorial & Dairy Ashford, Daddy O’s Pizza, Julie’s French Pastries, Kroger/Sushi Counter, Ninfa’s Mexican Restaurant Memorial, Nirvana and Saeed’s Mediterranean Grill. Kona Ice and Tree House were on site selling their products with a portion of the proceeds donated back to the PTA. The UPS Store (Kirkwood & Memorial) also helped with printing.
